On Thursday, we got up bright and early to catch a flight to Colorado. We got to the airport at 7:15 am and waited and waited and waited...Ella was a good girl through the wait and napped and went on walks through the concourses and was very content. We waited through the last flight of the night 7 pm - which had room for everyone on the stand-by list (our family, plus some others) but then Northwest cancelled a flight to Denver and those people got the open seats. We went home, after 12 hours at the airport feeling pretty sad.
Loran had a great idea to use Priceline to book a hotel - cheaply - for Saturday night so we could take a mini vacation. We got into a totally renovated Holiday Inn in St. Paul for $36. It was a nice break and everything was nice and new.
We took Ella swimming in the hotel pool which was much warmer than the pool in Hawaii. She LOVED it! She was just kicking away and all smiles!
This makes us really excited for swimming lessons at Courage Center.
After the swimming, Ella needed to bathe, so we hopped in the big bath together. She loved that too! After the bath, we went to the hotel restaurant where we had dinner while Ella slept. Halfway through our meal, she woke up, was a bit disoriented as to where she was and a little hungry so Loran had to remove screaming Ella from the restaurant while I packed up our food and settled the bill. We finished our food in our room after reading Ella a bedtime story and tucking her in.
Sunday morning we enjoyed a leisurely morning in the hotel. A couple of the vacationers were sleepy. (actually, just one) the littlest one just humored him for a few minutes. After their "nap" we got packed up.
First we took a walk at Battle Creek Park. We then went over to the Capitol to partake in some of the Sesquicentennial events. We toured the Capitol and then took the trolley over to the History Center to see the Declaration of Independence.
Ella fell right asleep in her Ergo carrier and slept through the entire thing. We did get this picture in front of a blown up replica of the Declaration. Upon returning to the car, we noticed that Ella, in her relaxed snugness next to her warm, cuddly daddy, peed through her diaper...and on her loving father! We headed home for a few hours and later went to fireworks at the Capitol. We didn't get too close as we didn't want to scare Ella with the noise while she was sleeping, but we did enjoy the fireworks we could see.
So now we're all refreshed after a nice weekend on "vacation" together.
