A Sick Well-Child Visit

Tonight we brought Ella up for a follow-up to her 12 month appointment to have her weight checked and to see how she's doing with her large motor development. It shouldn't have been a big deal, apparently, Ella didn't get the memo.

She is at the age where she understands that when she is led into a room covered in trippy, colorful children's wallpaper, lays on a paper covered table, gets stripped down to her diaper - it will usually end badly. Because she doesn't understand when I tell her she won't be getting any shots at this visit, she doesn't listen and proceeds to "freak out" at the nurse - who's only weighing her. Ella doesn't normally react to strangers, but when she gets on that scale - look out!

And that was doubly true tonight. Ella was so worked up from being weighed that she made herself gag and throw up - all over me and the floor. So, I spent the rest of the visit smelling like baby slime. Ella wasn't very friendly towards the doctor, but did let the doctor walk with her and stand her up without too much protest.

So, the verdict is that Ella gained 1/4 pound in the month and a half, and with her other weight gain at her 12 month appointment, she is now back on her growth curve! YAY!

The doctor is also very happy that Ella is having her PT eval tomorrow. She was telling us that every once in a while, she sees a child who's not progressing with large motor skills for no reason at all. She doesn't see any reason for alarm that it could be something larger. She even pointed out that Ella's 3+ word vocabulary is ahead of schedule. Usually, they don't see three words until 15 months.

More updates tomorrow after PT! Hopefully there will be less vomit! I might wear a rain poncho for the 15 month visit!

Poor Ella! Simon is the same. He had to go in for a foot fungus (groos I know) a few weeks ago and he shrieked the entire time. It was almost embarrassing.
I hope things go well with the evaluation today. Keep everyone posted! :)
