We brought Ella in for her three year check this week. We coached Ella beforehand as to what to expect at this doctor’s visit. She hasn’t been for a year, but has attended each of Lily’s visits. Ella marched into the office, confident as could be, with her own doctor’s kit in tow. Much to my surprise, she was completely at ease without any fear. She bravely stood on the scale, stood up to be measured, had her ear beeped with the thermometer and even sat quietly while her blood pressure was taken. All without my assistance. What a big girl!
The doctor came in and Ella was all charm. Answering questions, using her tools right alongside the doctor. The doctor even used Ella’s plastic reflex hammer which worked just fine, while Ella used the doctor’s! We left with a skipping Ella, no shots, a clean/perfect bill of health and hopefully won’t be back until next year (at least for Ella). The doctor thinks Ella will be testing out of her special-ed services sooner rather than later! Hooray!
Here are the big girl stats!
Weight: 32 pounds – 60% (she’s never been this high, percentile wise! Go Ella! Go cheese!)
Height: 39.5 inches – 90%
BMI: 10%
Ella and Janis have the same shirt. Ella knows what it says and will tell you in her adorable little voice, “Hoot hoot – I’m cuuute!”
I’m so proud of my little girl. No longer a baby, she’s definitely asserting her independence. But she still has time for cuddling and playing with/stealing Lily’s baby toys. Her vocabulary is booming. The other day, she was standing outside staring at the house. Proclaims, “this is the new house.” I asked her what color it was and she thought about it and answered, “it’s kinda white but kinda brown.” She just chatters away all day. I love it. As of this week, we are going Pull-Up free during the day, but still wearing diapers at night. Amazingly, Ella has only had once accident, even through naps. She’s really become a master at holding it. But the doctor says that’s normal and not a cause for worry. This girl loves her “big girl uh-wonder”.
Ella started her new special-ed program this week. She goes two half hours a week. Unfortunately, she misses her regular school during that time. But, her program seems to be really good and it’s really only a stone’s throw from her school so she just has a quick walk between the two. We have also enrolled her in gymnastics. That starts this weekend, and she attends with a parent, so we’ll see how that goes. I think she’ll really enjoy it once she gets comfortable with it. How funny would it be if my motor delayed daughter eventually became a little gymnast? Crazier things have happened!
