A few weeks ago, after half a year of watching bulldozers tear up the place, the nearby nature center opened a fabulous new play area. Since it was free for the first two weekends, we Gutts were all over that. I forgot the camera, but with my trusty cell phone, I was able to capture a few memories.
Lillian was full of pointing and grunting. She likes to know what everything is and makes a throat clearing noise and point to alert you to her question of the moment. That same throat clearing noise also stands for the word “truck” so she keeps us on our toes trying to figure out what’s going on in that little head of hers.
Ella was pretty impressed with the new wooden benches. She kept crawling up and then pretending she was sleeping. I wish it were that easy. If it were, she’d find a whole new bedroom set ala: The Three Bears that she could sleep on.
There is a tall (by MN standards) hill with an overlook that provides a pretty decent view of the park. There were binoculars set out for everyone to use. This was just too much fun for Ella and Lillian! Ella was busy spotting things and Lily was busy hoarding as many pairs as she could. She was one fanny pack away from becoming the ultimate tourist!
We ended our trip with a stroll through the children’s garden where the girls spotted plenty of new plants, we prevented them from stomping on the new plants and we all helped water those green survivors. As we were walking, Lily willingly held hands with Loran. A first for her, she has previously hated holding hands. Now she’s really starting to enjoy it. And to add to the shock factor, Ella reached out for Lily’s hand to hold on to her. This has never in the history of two little Gutt girls happened. It was almost magical, I would actually call it magical because it did not culminate in Ella pushing Lily down. Pure magic.
