The Sunday that Loran was gone, aka Morning of the Mouse, we planned to go to a family farm near my parents’ house for the ultimate in autumn experiences – farm in fall. You know, animals, pumpkins, corn stalks and tractor rides.
We arrived at Eveland Family Farm during the Vikings game and during most reasonable naptimes for children. It was perfect. Not busy at all and the setting was just right for experiencing the farm. Except for that not-so-fallish 85 degree thing going on.
We took a tractor ride around the cow pasture that Ella thought was amazing. It was slightly dusty from the lack of rain but the girls found the bumps to be phenomenal. Ella was all giggles and smiles. Lillian was ready to jump off during the last quarter of the ride.
We went to the animal barns to visit the livestock. They’re a very friendly bunch of animals and the girls were beyond excited to pet the goats, miniature horses, donkeys, pigs and more. Despite both girls being sweaty, thirsty and covered in a glaze of dust – they really didn’t want to leave their new farm friends.
First, we overlooked this giant pig sleeping right next to us. But we found that when you gently pushed on his head, he oinked like a toy, he became quite amusing.
One of the goats pushed Lily against the fence, I don’t think it realized she was next to it. No harm, but Lillian sprouted a giant pout that was record worthy. She didn’t hold a grudge long, she and the goats were best of friends shortly after.
On our way out, we stopped by the pumpkins so Lillian could inspect each and everyone for quality and “count” them. Ella was about done and ready for her water bottle in the car.
Our farm trip was just perfect. It was the right size for our attention span and the animals were great. The weather was a little wonky, but it was better than wearing parkas. That evening, we left Grandma and Grandpa’s house with happy memories, full tummies and a Barbie car (Note to Aunt Chelsey: we have your Barbie car, Woody, Buzz and a giraffe are currently tooling around in it). Not a bad day.
This little bear fell asleep on the couch and I made the mistake of waking her for dinner. This little bear went to bed shortly after this photo was taken.
