At two years old, Lily is really the girl about town. She’s quite busy keeping up her lavish lifestyle. Always growing and learning new things. She’s even getting her two-year molars, without batting an eye. Drooling, yes…chewing on her fingers, yes. But she’s taking it like a champ. Which, if you know Lillian, when you ask her what her name is she’ll respond, “Champ!” Lily and Ella enjoyed their first Cup and Cone for the year. We love the giant kids cup, priced at a whopping 47c.
Lily’s still rocking the fatty milk. We made a milk run one morning and I was able to let Lily steer the little cart without fear of anyone losing their shins. She was very responsible and calm with her cart. Lily is also starting to drink her fatty milk out of a big cup. Each week at school, she gets juice in a cup and most weeks that has ended badly. But, just a few weeks ago she did it successfully. We’re still dabbling with the cup, with many spills, but she’s growing up!
Lily is enjoying school. She loves seeing her friends, knows the songs we sing in circle time and gravitates to the art projects every time. Lily is showing a preference for her left hand. She’s our little artist. She loves to color, draw and paint. She calls her crayons “circles” and will just sit and color for hours – at home, in the car, at church, at school. We have quite the little art gallery between the two girls.
Feeding Lily continues to be tricky, however, she surprises us daily with what she likes. Like a typical toddler, she will devour a food one day and a few days later will not touch it. Or, will go days seemingly subsiding on air and crackers. One day, she surprised me at lunch with a love for guacamole. She LOVED it and ate a lot. Which is great! It’s healthy and is full of healthy fat! Paired with her veggie chips, we had hit a great stride. A few days later, she wouldn’t touch the guac. Lily is a big fan of green foods in general. Loves broccoli and is really starting to enjoy lettuce as well. Her eating may be quirky, but it’s pretty nutritious. She does have a jones for fruit snacks (natural fruit snacks) and cookie bars (Fiber One granola bars). Even her snacking is rather healthy.
Lily is pretty technologically advanced. She has been known to move furniture around so she can crawl up on furniture to get my iPad or phone. I have walked into the room to find her watching a slide show of photos that she has set to music. Lily will swipe the screen and navigate around to find exactly what she wants to play or watch. When she’s done, she knows how to get to her next preferred app. She has even taught me how to do things on my phone and features that I didn’t know existed. Soon, I’ll be able to pass the blogging onto her. When the posts are focused on baby animals or titled, “I Love Trucks” you’ll know that Lily has taken the reins. She’s getting close too, the other day she was bringing Loran and me magnetic letters from the fridge and accurately telling us which letter she was bringing. Being the second child, we haven’t been prepping her for college as early as we did with Ella, so I’m not entirely sure where this knowledge has come from, but it’s amazing! Such a growing brain!
Lily loves to “unwind” at the end of the day in the bath. Because of her eczema, she doesn’t get a bath daily. We typically stick to a twice a week schedule. However, the warmer weather always ramps up the bath schedule. Despite having little girls, our tub is still filthy after a bath. Dirt finds young people like a magnet. The warmer weather has also ushered in bubble blowing season. Bathing would be a lot easier if I could just spray the girls off with the hose. They’re already saturated with bubble solution, so with the added water they should just foam up. Unfortunately, they don’t seem too keen on letting me hose them off in the yard. The love of baths is so intense with Lily that Loran and I have to whisper it or spell it because the moment she hears the word, her eyes light up and she takes off at full throttle for the bathroom, shedding clothing along the way. She’s first one in and last one out. While I joke that they’re the dirty kids, they aren’t. Lily would stay in the tub all day, but we usually have to end the party when she’s a shivering little prune…and she still doesn’t want to get out!
There’s not a lot of baby left in our baby!
