We’ve held off on taking the girls to the movies for the first time. Ella’s sensitivities have been a big factor, not knowing if she would enjoy a loud movie in a dark theater or freak out, possibly invoking the rather rare (now) vomit cry. I really didn’t want to pay $10/ticket to only see the previews and end up with popcorn laden barf on my lap.
Our local theater chain has $1 children’s movies on Wednesday mornings. Loran took a morning from work and we both took the girls to see “Horton Hears a Who”. We missed the first ten minutes of the movie, so I’m not entirely sure how Horton obtained his speck, or heard the Whos, but despite this loss in plot development, the girls really enjoyed the movie.
In the weeks following, they have been acting out the movie, and every time we pass the flowering shrubs in our development, they point out the “specks” – we were very happy to have made it through our first movie theater experience with positive feelings.
We’ve been sitting on four movie passes for a couple of months now, so this weekend, we cashed those in and took the girls to see “Monsters University”. Loved it! I ordered us a large popcorn and drink. When the tub of popcorn was presented, I immediately regretted my order, thinking there was NO way we would finish the behemoth popcorn. At the end of the movie, we threw our empty popcorn tub in the garbage. Half of it was in Lily. Never doubt the power of a hungry three year old, despite her small stature.
