We did it. We went to the zoo in July! Big deal? NO. We went to the zoo, in July, in Austin, during the afternoon on a sunny day. That’s big for us.
Last year, we hid inside between 11a and 4p, May – September. But now that we’re acclimating, we’re starting to entertain thoughts of doing outdoorsy things that don’t involve swimsuits, even during the day.
Granted, this summer has been “cool” only reaching triple digits a handful of times so far. And by cool, I mean any temperature between 90 and 95. Realistically, it won’t be below 90.
We loaded up the car after lunch and visited the little Austin Zoo in the afternoon. We walked all over, visiting the rescue animals. We rode the train. The girls even had a little scavenger hunt to work on.
We were sweaty, we all drained our water bottles, and we rejoiced when we entered our air conditioned vehicle, but the point was – we did it! We enjoyed some outdoor family time on a 96 degree day, and lived to tell about it!
