The Great Outdoors

Last weekend, we ventured six hours to Northern Wisconsin to stay at a resort near Phelps with my parents. In true Ella form...about 1/4 mile from arriving at our destination, we smelled something punk coming from inside the car. Yep. Baby vomit. The very last mile of our trip was on some nice winding, hilly roads - and as we can deduce from prior Ella barfed posts, she may be a tad prone to motion sickness...

We had to pull over, strip her down and drive with Ella in *gasp* Loran's lap (passenger side) the last 1/4 mile. We felt like such rebels, or like Britney Spears. But, that carseat was in no shape to work. Even Ella didn't want to touch anything. In our defense, we were on what was basically a long driveway to the resort, I went about 10 mph with the emergency flashers on.

Ella was in a super mood despite the booting and we had a great, short weekend away. The resort even had some Elmo movies that we could borrow. Ella was very happy to be able to watch some "mo". She kept everyone entertained throughout the weekend with her antics.

On Sunday, we drove up to see the headwaters of the Wisconsin River. It was less thrilling than seeing the headwaters of the Mississippi. We then ventured into Michigan to see the Bond Falls which were beautiful! On our way back, we stopped at this local cafe called Big Mama's where we gorged ourselves on fried goodness. This just adds to the wonderful diet of snack foods we were already eating, topped with pizza and steak for dinners! It was awesome!!

Before leaving on Monday, Loran and I took the paddle boat out. We quickly discovered that paddle boating is pretty lame. A lot of work for a little distance. We quickly switched to the canoe and went across the lake, being trailed by a suspicious looking loon the whole time.

It was a nice weekend away, and best of all, Ella didn't throw up on the way home! Whew. We turned her carseat around to face the front - finally. Most kids turn at 1 year and 20 pounds. But, Ella's little and it's still safer to ride rear facing, so we held back as long as possible, because it's not like she knows the difference. But, she was very happy to see out the front. However, we could also see what she does in the car...There were socks waving in the rear view mirror, and once I looked back and she had both legs pulled up along either side of her head, like a V. That looked weird. Whatever Ella!

I like the video because Ella's so happy in the swing, chatting away. She would say "Wheeeee" as she swung, when asked what she did in her seat, she'd say "Blah!" and I think there's a "Chewy" in there too.
