Two Year Exam

Ella visited the doctor on Monday night for her two year check up. Ella has developed an irrational/rational fear of the paper they cover the table with. She freaks out when she hears it crinkle. I think she associates that sound with shots - which is usually what it's associated with. So, she's not completely irrational.

Ella was very busy around the exam room, checking out all of the animals on the wallpaper border, chatting with the doctor and goofing off. She did okay with the exam when she was able to stay in the safety of Daddy's lap.

It was a great visit as it was one of the firsts in many exams in which there were no longer any concerns. Everyone is very pleased with Ella's development and even though she's still slightly behind, she's making such quick progress, no one is worried. Additionally, she has far more words than expected at this age and is advanced in her own little ways.

The doctor says 2.5 years is perfect for potty training - so we'll still look ahead towards our summer goal. Ella is also free of whole milk and can start drinking skim like the rest of us. And, she gets to start taking children's chewable vitamins. Such a big girl!!

There were tears, because I requested a lead test be done. Ella's first test was done before she was mobile, so wouldn't have been as accurate and our house is almost 90 years old - so it's best to know if we have a leaded or unleaded child. Ella also had her last Hep A booster. She didn't cry for the finger prick for the lead test - but was severely annoyed by the bandage (3M folks are forbidden from saying Band-Aid) on her finger. The shot was another matter because it involved the exam table paper. But, Ella was able to walk out under her own power with her sniffles under control. We removed the offending finger bandage in the car and she was happy to go grocery shopping with us afterward.

At dinner, I noticed that Ella's two year molars are poking through. Honestly, I'd have never guessed that given her stellar mood lately. But, it was very predictable since Ella's always been advanced to on-time with her tooth acquirement. Once these buggers are in, we're teething free until she's about six. Of course, Lillian's a whole other matter. Hopefully, she'll teeth as well as her sister.

No more doctor's visits until age three. No more shots until Kindergarten, except flu shots. What a big girl! :) And now we start over in two months...

The stats -
Weight: 26 pounds - 40%
Height: 35.5 inches - 90%
Head - 25%

The usual. Try buying pants for miss long and lean...she's just like her mommy, trapped in a world of capri pants, even when they aren't.
