How the USA Disgraced the Floor...

Last weekend, we went to our friend Jake's house to watch the US/Canada gold medal game. It was great to catch up with good friends, see his new house and watch some good hockey. Ella loves hockey. And once she warmed up to Jake, she'd pretty much taken over his living room and made herself quite at home. She enjoyed climbing up on his couch and had her toys spread all around her as she relaxed, propped up with a pillow watching hockey. But, we weren't counting on the US scoring a goal to tie up the game in the last 25 seconds. Suddenly, the men were shouting and whooping it up. This sent Ella, who was sitting on Jake's lap, into a frenzy. I had an idea of where this was going once she started gagging. Yep, Ella threw up all over Jake, the floor, herself and a little on Loran. Not two minutes earlier I'd been telling our friend Brent how amazing being a parent was...and there I was, eating my words as I mopped vomit off of my daughter and my friend's (thankfully) wooden floor. So, Ella was stripped down and her clothes were thrown into the wash. Jake gave her a tee shirt to wear, which was pretty darn cute.

Once the US had lost and Ella's clothes were dry, we loaded up and made a dash to IKEA before they closed. We purchased Ella's big girl furniture. She is now the owner of a full size bed and dresser in the Hemnes style. Our giant boxes of sticks were delivered on Monday and are taking up room in the dining room waiting for someone to assemble them with an allen wrench. We're also waiting for the mattress to be delivered, otherwise, assembly is just pointless. Not sure how Ella will take to a big bed, but now that she's taken to climbing on everything, climbing out of her crib is just a matter of time.

Lily is now the proud owner of a belly button. That excitement happened one late evening when Loran was changing her, just like with Ella. I'm glad she has a belly button because the stump was getting kinda funky.
Ella has become a little more accepting of her sister. Now she'll even kiss her. She also likes to be in charge of pacifier maintenance. At least this time she kissed the back of Lily's head, a few days prior, she was determined to kiss Lily's mouth, so grabbed her by the face in an effort to turn her head...

We got a call from our pediatrician that one of Lily's newborn screening tests came back abnormal. It has to do with her hemoglobin. It will be checked more in-depth when she's nine months. It will cause no problems for her, as it's a recessive gene. It's more information that she'll want to have when she has her own babies so she and her husband can be checked to assess their risk level. Scary parts of this paragraph: husband and babies! She's only 2 1/2 weeks old!! She just got her social security card today!

As far as sleeping goes, the last two nights have been a little better, thanks to a little miracle product with the dorky name of Snuggle Nest. We seem to have a baby who wants to spend half of the night with us. If we try to put her in her bassinet before 4am, she freaks out. But, if she sleeps in bed with us, she's happy as can be and after that middle of the night feeding, she'll happily go in her bassinet. What? In our sleepy haze, we'd let her sleep between us for several nights. But, ever the mommy, I'm completely freaked out that she will be smothered in our blankets. I'm not so worried about rolling on her, just the smothering. So, I headed to Babies R Us, gift card in tow, and left with the Snuggle Nest. She loves this thing. I have to say, it definitely cuts down in the amount of real estate Loran and I get in our queen size bed, but for a month or so of sleep, it's totally worth it.


We also found out that Ella got accepted into the preschool we applied for - a Montessori school. Which is completely anti-climatic outside of New York City. She'll attend next year with our neighbor, so that will be fun. One of the teachers is her babysitter, so she's already in love. Plus, they have a turtle and frogs. How sweet is that? We also had her annual meeting with her therapist team today and she's done so well! There's question if she'll even qualify for services in the age 3-5 category. Which, is great news!

I swear we aren't trying to phase out Ella from photos. But, Lily is easy to photograph and Ella's having none of it. Then, we try to get Ella to take a photo with Lily, that's just a disaster or head injury waiting to happen...
