This past weekend, this crazy little girl of ours turned nine months old. NINE MONTHS?? Where has the time gone. Fast. Our little peanut is a mover and shaker. She’s pulling up to her knees and kneeling. Any day, she’ll greet us in the morning standing in her crib. We brought her in for the big nine month check-up on Monday night.
Height: 29 3/4 inches - 100+%
Weight: 16 1/2 pounds - 10%
Head: 17 inches – 25%
Now that she’s a mobile girl, her weight has dropped a bit off of her growth curve. While that’s completely normal. Miss Long and Lean doesn’t have a lot to work with. So, much like her sister, Lillian is on the fatty butter diet. Lucky girl. She’s been sprung from eating only baby foods and now gets to have all kinds of finger foods – with added butter, oil and various other fats. Lillian has had a few meals of noodles smothered in olive oil, fat-laden whole milk yogurt, veggies with butter, chicken nugget pieces and shredded cheese. And, no more sippy cups of water – milk only! In addition to her 32 oz of formula. Lily’s loving her finger foods. Both hands shoving food in her mouth as quickly as possible.
The low part of the visit occurred during Lillian’s blood draw. At nine months, they don’t get shots, but they do have their blood drawn for a lead test and because of Lillian’s hemoglobin abnormality, she needed more blood. (although we’re fairly certain we’re going to find out Lillian has the Park Ridge hemoglobin variant like Ella.) Lily was very brave as two nurses attempted to get blood from both of her little baby arms. After fifteen minutes and a lot of screaming, The blood draw was unsuccessful. The wonderful nurses were frustrated after trying several times on both arms, yielding little results and Lillian was a tear stained, red faced, angry baby. Loran was in the room while Ella and I were in the waiting room trying out each chair, trying to ignore the screams coming from down the hall. Screams that were making my stomach twist and turn.
We left the appointment with a blood draw order for Children’s Hospital (just can’t shake that place), advice to get some Lotrimin for a diaper rash that is more yeast than rash from antibiotics and a very happy and healthy nine month old. Next up, Ella’s three year appointment next month!
