The Siren Song of a Puddle

I’ve chronicled Ella’s earlier adventures with puddles this spring. Recently, we took a walk at the local nature center. It was a warm, dry day but there were a few small puddles on the sidewalks from the recently melted snow. As we made our way around the trail with Lily in the carrier and Ella on foot, we watched the struggle inside Ella’s head as she tried to avoid the puddles, even through she really wanted to “take another hit” and stomp right in it. We reminded her that she didn’t have her rain boots on and therefore would have wet feet. She avoided nearly all of the puddles, but there was one that she just couldn’t walk around. She stopped behind it, really pondered how to get around it without incident and decided, she had to do it. She had to feel the thrill of displacing water with your very own feet.

We really enjoyed our stroll outside with the warmer temps. The best part was the conversation led by one three year old. She was quite the little chatterbox. She was asking everyone what their favorite colors were. Well, she only asked me. It went something like this:

Ella: “Mom, what’s your favorite color?”

Me: “pink”

Ella: “Oh! Pink! My favorite color is purple. Dad, what’s your favorite color? *no pause for answer* Dad, your favorite color is grey. I like purple, Mom likes pink, Dad likes Grey…blah blah blah…”

She was just a constant stream of conversation. She didn’t necessarily need the conversation part. She was perfectly happy with a monologue the entire way.

We stopped in the nature center building to visit the little owl, turtles, snakes, salamander and other fun things. Both girls loved exploring the building. Ella saw a teacher from her motor program with really threw her off. Teacher out of context *head explodes*!

After the busy day, the little hikers needed to take a little break on the front porch with Dad. We stuffed the kiddos with grilled cheese and tomatoes and away to nap they went. Now if the weather would just stay warm and stop snowing!!
