I’m on a Boat

A few weeks ago, my aunt and uncle from Colorado came into town. This usually means there will be feasting, fun and some sort of explosives. We all gathered on Saturday on the lake. This was very convenient for us since the festivities took place across the street from us. The weather was perfect and we all had a great time on the dock conversing, learning how to paddle board, swimming, kayaking and eventually getting the boat out. Ella was ecstatic to be swimming in the lake, especially with Aunt Chelsey! This lake excursion also supported three major milestones…First, Ella fished for the first time! I wasn’t at the dock to see this, but apparently Rob showed her how to cast, which she really enjoyed, much to the danger of anyone within the vicinity of her line. And, she also caught a sunny and held it. I’m sad Loran and I didn’t witness her angling, but she was ecstatic! Second, Ella went on a boat ride! Is it completely pathetic that we live a house from the lake and Ella’s never been on a boat? And we actually OWN a boat?! But due to low lake levels and the fact that we’re horrible at fishing, it’s in the garage at our other house. (other house, that makes us seem all hoity-toity…let me rephrase, the house we rent out because the market was too horrible to sell…) So, Ella made her maiden voyage. She was somewhat put-off by the life jacket, but once she realized it was a non-negotiable. No jacket, no boat, she was quick to comply. She quickly got her sea legs and we weren’t a few minutes into our voyage when she approached Rob, our boat captain, and very boldly told him it was her turn to drive. She sat right up in his lap and steered us in large circles. Eventually, in a later ride, she enjoyed going fast while pulling water skiers. The third milestone on the lake was Chelsey getting up on water skis! Very exciting! Ella was very nervous to have her auntie out in the water and then falling repeatedly on the skis, only to eventually get up and then dragged by the boat around the lake. Ella needed a lot of comforting words from Grandma that Chelsey was okay. Once she calmed down and realized that her precious Chelsey was going to be okay, she passed out in Grandma’s lap.

Swimming with Chelsey while I try the paddle board – tricky but fun once you get used to it!

Too much excitement for the Lil’ Captain!

Lillian had less of an amazing day. She napped during the swimming portion of the day and then went with Loran and I to church to volunteer in the nursery (however, there was a downpour during that time, so there was mandatory snacking and relaxing) during the water skiing part of the day. She did enjoy some dock time and was quite the entertainer during dinner. Including tipping her chair off the deck and making adorable faces whenever she heard her favorite neighborhood dog, a few houses down, barking. We call the dog, “Woofie Dog” because she puts on quite the show with barking when we walk by, and the girls love it. So Lillian was especially enamored with being able to hear Woofie Dog from her highchair.

She may not have captained a boat, but Lillian had a wonderful time soaking up the love of her family, she had some great quality time with Great Grandma and Grandpa on the dock watching the boat zip around pulling water skiers.

The fireworks, despite being purchased and smuggled across state lines, were never implemented. We’d had a full, busy and fun day. But, by nightfall, people were starting to fade. Including my little people who were basically dumped into their beds where they passed out immediately.

A good time was had by all.
