A Day in the Life

Our days seem to fly by, mostly. Peppered with the giggles, shrieks and tears of two busy girls. They’re pals/enemies within the same breath. This summer has been so fun, so much energy between the two girls, I can only imagine that next summer will be even crazier. Can’t wait! Here are some of the day-to-day photos are stories that don’t quite get an entry of their own, but they’re cute/notable when they join forces with other random photos.

Imaginations are flourishing at our house. The other day, Ella comes up to me to inform me that “Woody and Barbie like to kiss”. Where does she get this stuff from? Her television viewing is pretty limited to what PBS has to offer, and Toy Story. Apparently, the birds and the bees are closer than I’d imagined.

Have I mentioned Lillian’s affinity for climbing? If she’s not in something, she’s on something. After much struggle and persistance, she managed to wiggle herself up and onto one of the stools in the kitchen. She wiggled on her belly, then pulled her knees up onto it and maneuvered her legs around underneath her into a sitting position. It was pretty impressive. She was mighty proud.

I signed Ella up for the Daisy Dash portion of the 5K I train for. She was “in training” for the weeks leading up to it. Basically, it was a crafty ploy to get her to hustle in many varying situations. One evening, we all went grocery shopping. With me pushing Lily in the cart, Ella was very excited to hold Loran’s hand and “daisy dash!” through the store from item to item. She was a blur of squeals. It was like watching Supermarket Sweep.

We take her around the neighborhood on her little trike, but I felt she needed some motivation. We’d look at the “big girl bicycles” at Target, and admire other children we saw on the path who were pedaling, but we just can’t get her little legs to do it. I figured, rather than go out and buy a new bike, maybe someone would have one that we could get at a discount. Once Facebook post later, Ella is the very proud owner of this new 15 inch bike. And, a friend was generous enough to just give it to us. Her youngest had just outgrown it and moved up to a bigger bike and she had been wondering what to do with it when she saw my post. Ella could hardly wait to get home to get on it. In fact, she wanted to get out of the car and ride the bike upon seeing it at my friend’s house. The exact words were, “I need to get out and see it, now!” She still can’t pedal it, but she will show off her new ride to anyone who wants to see it and hopefully next summer she’ll be pedaling down the trail like a pro!

Ella had her first school-friend playdate. I would have planned one earlier, but I worried she would be a bit socially awkward. However, she was ready and off we went to her friend J’s house. Both Ella and Lily were invited and they had a blast playing inside and out. Trains, dinosaurs, sidewalk chalk – everyone was all smiles. And Ella’s buddy (age 5) was super excited to be able to lift Ella, and Ella was all smiles and chuckles to be carried around by her buddy. After this exciting playdate, the dolls were set aside and we brought out our train set. Both girls were so excited to dig into the bin of tracks, trains and cars.
