Lillian, aka Champion, had her two year well child check Monday evening. We were very happy to be headed into the doctor’s office without a reason, other than age. As soon as we were in our exam room, Lillian knew where to look for the crayons and she and Ella set off on decorating the exam room paper as quickly as possible – their favorite pastime.
Once you’re two, you are entitled to a few new dignities – you get to keep your clothes on! Advanced age doesn’t make the doctor less frightening. Lillian would not stand on the scale and kept leaping off the infant scale (which was on a counter so we kept having to catch her screaming self) So, we had to do the old weigh Mommy and Lily, then weigh Mommy and subtract. Then, she didn’t want to have her height measured. So, Ella tagged in and had her height measured. That spurred Lily to stand tall.
The stats:
Height: 34 3/4 inches – 80%
Weight: 24 1/4 pounds – 30% !!!
Yes, 30%. Lily has never been that high, percentage wise. At hear last visit, six months ago, she was in the <5% range. Her entire life, we’ve been skirting that “failure to thrive” label, barely. This was the best news possible! Big props to the half and half we’ve added to her whole milk and the butter slathered on everything. (the kid actually asks for butter for a snack) However, her 80% height makes me think she may be gearing up for a growth spurt, because she’s been eating well so I’m guessing she’s about to stretch again back towards the 100% mark. So, Lily graduates from half and half and Pediasure, but remains on whole milk for the time being.
Lily and Ella were very excited to see their doctor. Ella even noticed she hadn’t been wearing her nametag (that has a star holder), called her out and the doctor retrieved her tag and put it on which pleased Ella. Both were smiley and talkative as they worked on their table paper masterpiece. Lily was a little reluctant to be checked out, so Ella tagged in again and the doctor basically performed an exam on Ella too, then would check Lily and went back and forth for each area to be checked out.
Lily has fluid in both ears, not enough for a prescription for an ear infection. So, she’s like a ticking time bomb. If she doesn’t get an ear infection by Thursday, she most likely won’t. And if she does, we just have to call the office and the doctor will call the prescription in. Tick, tick, tick. Otherwise, lungs are nice and clear (which is especially great since she does have a cold). And, we don’t need a script for a nebulizer for the future as the respiratory therapists decided that it wasn’t beneficial enough to keep doing it outside of the hospital. Whew.
The last order of business was one shot. Only one! The nurse came in and I did the usual “hold Lily down” maneuver. However, Lily took this shot like a pro. Not a tear shed and she was very excited for her bright pink bandage and horse sticker. She strut out of the office, saying “bye!” to everyone she encountered. Apparently she has a better grasp of time than we’ve given her credit for, because in an ideal world, we won’t be back for a year for Lily’s 3 year check! However, given our luck with health this last month, I’m not going to hold my breath.
