Maybe? Day one of potty training was okay to start. Lily was really interested and very aware of each and every time she wet herself…seven times…she’d even try to sit on the potty right after she wet. That awareness seemed to be a positive step. We were feeling a little low after accident six. Accident seven happened as we were getting ready to go to the girls’ Young Athletes program at the Y, right before she was going to be put in a diaper. Made us late, and grumpy. Luckily, we got to have that hour break to run around and play games. We needed that.
When we got home, Lily was still dry so she sat on her chair. She wiggled, and whimpered and had a look of terror in her eyes. Through her whimpers she told me she was done and wanted to get up, but I encouraged her to stay on. Lo and behold, all the commotion was because she needed to go and didn’t know what to do. She got past the fear and went. Suddenly her whimpers turned into a weird little giggle and she said, “I peed in the potty!” Sure enough, success! We made a HUGE deal out of it, like we may have run out into the yard to tell Loran. She got her M&M and was over the moon. As was Ella because she finally got that long-awaited M&M too. Now Lily had motivation, so a bit later, she tried again…and was successful. Another M&M and much joy. In the span on an HOUR, she went FOUR times! She was just ecstatic with herself, and the M&M accrual. She even wanted to make some phone calls. She called Aunt Chelsey, Grandma, Nana and even Daddy (who was home, she just liked talking on the phone). It was adorable.
Onto day two. While I’d like to have high hopes, I’m still going to keep the bar low so as not to get too overwhelmed and saddened by accidents.
Sharing the big news!
