Rock Star!

First, we had an AllStar Student, that was pretty neat. Then, we get the mail to find one of those "To The Parents of..." letters. The kind you received as a child and gulped as you replayed the last couple of weeks of school back in your head trying to spot an infraction, or if you were generally naughty, trying to pinpoint which infraction earned a formal letter home. However, this letter informed us that Ella had been nominated as the Pre-K Character Rock Star for the fourth six weeks of school. "Students selected for this recognition have consistently demonstrated exemplary character and; in doing so, have served as outstanding role models for others."

Today, she was recognized during a program in the gym. The award is a surprise, so we couldn't tell her what was happening. I helped guide her outfit choice, made sure her hair was combed nicely and face washed. Then, Loran and I both brought her to school, which she surprisingly didn't question. We dropped her off out front with a teacher like usual and then circled around to park. She was still near the door with the other Pre-K students so Loran, Lily and I hid behind bushes and pillars like spies until we were given the all-clear by a teacher. Once the Pre-K students had been herded into the gym, we covertly entered and took a seat. Despite sitting right near the gym door, Ella did not see us come in. Or, perhaps she was ignoring us in her advanced age.

A student from each class was recognized and their little faces erupted into smiles when their name was called and they got to go up front and receive their reward as their praises were read. Everyone except Ella. This was Ella's first time attending a Rock Star award. I'm sure her head was trying to process why they weren't outside at recess, rather sitting in a large boring gym. Then her name was called. Her face was a giant, "Huh?" But, her face softened when her teacher, Ms. Magee handed her a giant inflatable guitar - the award when you're a Character Rock Star and she even cracked a smile as Ms. Magee's nomination was read:

I nominate Ella for Character Rock Star because she is new to our school and she came happy and ready to start!!! Ella has made so many new friends and loves playing with them all. She works very hard in class to do her best work. We are so glad she came to our school!!!

What is happening to me? Are we playing Rock Band?

I kind of like whatever is happening!

Pre-K Rock Stars

Ella entrusted us with the giant guitar while she went about her school day. Lillian carefully carried it into the apartment with the instructions to find a safe place to put it while Ella was at school. She tucked it into Ella's bed.
