Back in September, we were contacted by UT to see if Lily would participate in their language study. Since Ella had already been to college for the study, Lily was gunning for her turn. Loran signed them up and for days leading up to her study day, we’d have to remind Lily how many sleeps until college. Patience was not her strong suit. Finally, her day to be a Longhorn came. Loran picked Lily up from school, they stopped for snacks along the way so Lily would bring her ‘A game’. Of course, Lily enjoyed having the college girls pay attention to her and would readily do whatever they wanted. After completing her portion of the study, Lily got to pick a new book. She bounded into the house with her new Curious George book, all smiles.
A month later and we’re still hearing all about college. I’m reminded quite frequently that both Ella and Lily have gone to college. I’m taking the high road and not putting my actual college degree on display for them when they try to belittle the choices I’ve made for them because they’ve been to college. Someday, they will see…real college will charge you $140 for that paperback book…
