The Overthrow of King Boreas and Molars

It was so bright out, Ella needed some shades!

Saturday, we enjoyed a balmy 46 degrees - tying the record high temp. After an entire month of bone-chilling temps, we were finally given a reprieve. If only for a day. We enjoyed it by taking a nice long walk to the library. We had intended to also see the Polar Plunge going on in the lake to raise money for Special Olympics, but we didn't quite make it in time.

Ella enjoyed riding around in her Ergo and eventually fell asleep.

We had to strap her face in so she'd quit flopping backwards!

That evening, after dinner, we went to the Winter Carnival Torchlight Parade. This was the big one where King Boreas - king of the winds would be overthrown by Vulcanus Rex - the fire king and his Krewe of Vulcans. While it all sounds a little crazy, it's a history steeped celebration of winter and coming summer and it draws hundreds of thousands of attendees which is pretty impressive for a celebration in the dead of winter.


It was a nice night, with a wind that was starting to stir things up a bit. We enjoyed the parade. Ella mostly looked stone faced, but took in everything. She did like dancing with the marching bands and really enjoyed the fire created by the hot-air balloon baskets that passed by. We left the parade a little early and didn't see the overthrow, but we were getting chilly.

Our camera battery was dead so we had to turn it on, take a pic quickly before it turned off. So, not every picture was a winner...but they're all we have - one eye open and all!

Unfortunately, Ella woke up this morning with a high fever of 103.8 which we were able to lower with a little TLC. She's eating and drinking fine, but just down in spirits. We've given her plenty of naps and cuddles and hopefully she'll start to get over this horrible cold that's plagued her for a month. Additionally, while trying to console her during a diaper change, I noticed that she had almost her entire right lower molar in - which it wasn't at all yesterday and the left one is starting to poke out. They've been visible under the gums all week, but it really came in full-force overnight, so she's miserable on all accounts.
