Yesterday, after picking Ella up from school, she recalled pretty accurately what she had done with the Resurrection Egg set we introduced her to this year leading up to Easter. Then, after feeling quite impressed with my three-year-old’s memory and how we rocked as parents in teaching her some spiritual lessons, it occurred to me that I never updated the blog on Easter with the girls. This year was fun. Ella is starting to understand, not only the spiritual side of Easter, but the bunny, eggs and chocolate side of Easter. Both sides, are truly amazing.
We started a new tradition in place of dying eggs. Our family doesn’t eat a lot of eggs and definitely not hard boiled, so I knew that boiling a dozen eggs just for the sake of dyeing them would be rather wasteful. We decided to make and decorate cupcakes instead. It was a lot of fun and we had Aunt Chelsey come help with the effort. On Good Friday, we loaded up the girls on a chilly, grey, misty day and headed to the Como Zoo with Chelsey, then home to make our cupcakes. Frosting was easily Ella’s favorite part of the day. Who can blame her?
I naively figured that since Easter was at the end of April, clearly we would be experiencing some warm, spring-like weather. Flowers blooming, leaves budding, grass greening up…maybe even sunshine! Nope. Cold. Grey. No buds. No flowers. Snow still showing up in the forecasts. *sigh*
Straight Family Easter featured an outdoor egg hunt. Ella cleaned up because Lily was napping. The next morning was actual Easter and Ella and Lily had baskets to find and eggs to nab. This time, Lily got the ball rolling before Ella because she started nabbing eggs while Ella was sitting on the toilet. Ha! Take that big sister. Both girls had consumed their weight in chocolate before 10 am.
