Last year, during Easter, we were living in our apartment. We felt a little disconnected from family, didn’t have anywhere to go, but we made the best of it. This year was totally different. Now that we’ve been in our home for a year, and have an awesome neighborhood family, Easter was just as festive, and not as chilly as Easter in MN.
Our neighborhood had an Easter egg hunt. The event went from 3-5. We figured the egg hunt wouldn’t start right on time. Wrong. As we leisurely walked up the yard a few minutes after 3 after another neighborhood friend’s birthday party, we saw all of the kids burst out the back door of the clubhouse in search of eggs. Ella and Lily had to hustle up to get some eggs. Luckily, the kids burst out and went deep, leaving behind a bunch of eggs next to the doors. Ella and Lily immediately filled their baskets. When another friend arrived a few minutes after us and all of the eggs had been snatched up, the girls each gave their friend some of their eggs so she wouldn’t be without.
Lily was happy to sit with the Easter bunny, Ella wanted nothing to do with it.
The girls really wanted to dye eggs this year, so I mustered up my courage and threw caution to the wind and hard-boiled eggs, we aproned up, and dye we did. Seriously a waste of eggs since we ate a total of two eggs (the cats had one of those two). The girls had fun though.
We enjoyed going to church on Saturday evening before Easter. The girls were trying to get as much mileage out of their Easter dresses as possible. They wore them at any opportunity they could. Immediately after church, they changed into pjs so they could preserve the cleanliness of their dresses and wear them the following day.
Easter morning, we figured they’d be up really early, but thankfully, the girls slept in a bit. But from the living room, we hear Ella yell, “EASTER EGGS! THE EASTER BUNNY CAME! AHHH!” Loran and I jumped out of bed so as not to miss the action. Over a hundred eggs in the house and in the backyard , they were busy. Each girl had their bunny basket hidden with some swimming stuff in it. Then, I’d purchased some toys from our neighbor girl who was ready to part with them, so there was a pile of American Girl clothes and accessories and a collection of horses and accessories. The girls were completely amazed.
Later in the day, we went to our neighbor’s house for a little gathering. We Skyped with the families and the girls played with their new toys and ate Easter candy all day. All in all, a solid Easter.
